Try Chez Muffy if you want to have an unforgettable dining experience. Chez Muffy, a French Canadian farmhouse-inspired restaurant, combines culinary expertise with an amazing wine program, warm customer service and a historic setting to create something delicious. This is more than just a delicious meal. This is a journey through taste, culture, history and all that’s beautiful about French Canada.
First Impressions of Chez Muffy, Quebec
As I entered this Quebec restaurant for the first time, I felt as if I had stepped back in history. The building was built in 1822 as a warehouse along the St Laurence River. The dining area is surrounded by original stone walls, but exposed wood and comfortable seats make it cozy and relaxing. I could have stayed there for hours, chatting with friends or enjoying a glass of wine. The views of the St Lawrence River were said to be breathtaking, but when we arrived at night, the fire dancing in the fireplace was all that we needed. I was seated immediately and started a culinary journey I won’t soon forget.
Chez Muffy’s Sommelier Team
Wikipedia is a sommelier A wine steward is an expert in the field of wine. A wine expert who is well-trained and has extensive knowledge of wine. They work in restaurants that specialize in wine/food matching. Since 95% of Quebec City’s population speaks French, you might assume that sommeliers are French words. It’s a French word, but also an English one, similar to concierge. Who else, but the French, would think wine paring to be a serious and professional endeavor? Chez Muffy offers over 700 bottles of wines from 14 countries. No wonder they offer a sommelier’s service. We wanted to experience Quebec authentically. I selected Vignoble du Marathonien Vin du Glace – 2015. This ice-wine was crisp, refreshing and had a wonderful taste from start to finish. It was a little bit sweet, but balanced. Throughout the night, I had an iced apple cider and a whiskey with maple syrup. These drinks were all delicious and went perfectly with the food.
Farm to Fork Restaurant Quebec Style
Chez Muffy not only offers a seasonal menu but also tries to source local food as much as possible. As soon as I found out that the scallops were straight from St Laurence River I knew I had to taste them. Giant Sea Scallops are grown and shipped to Quebec live so that they can be served fresh. My first bite of this delicious scallop was so buttery, flavorful and juicy. If every scallop tasted this good, I would be a scallop fanatic. It is important to note that I had this meal with Cat, Kevin and the team behind Fortwoplz . It is impossible that I could have eaten this all by myself. It was a pleasure to have their company, and I’m grateful for the food they provided. On Cat and Kevin’s insistence, I had foie gras, and it was as delicious as everything else I had at Chez Muffy. The combination of flavors and the smooth texture in my mouth really won me over. Green beans were another notable farm-to-fork treat. Green beans are not my favorite, but I loved these. The beans were sourced locally from Chez Muffy’s Farm on the l’île d’Orleans. The maple syrup added a slight sweetness to the crisp, flavorful apples.
Slow Cooking in a Quebec restaurant
Instant Pots are the latest craze. I remember pressure cookers from my childhood. My dad told me that patience is a virtue. The chefs at Chez Muffy have to be saints. I don’t exactly know how long the slow cookers cook for, but I do know what they produce. Each bite of meat that I ate melted into my mouth. We split the beef carpaccio and venison pies. The flavors of the carpaccio were creamy gorgonzola and slightly garlicky truffles. The daube was baked with puff pastry, which was light and flaky. It was flavorful, rich and hearty. The sweetness of blackcurrant spiced jam balanced out the venison’s strength. Slow cooking gave the meat a texture that was incredibly smooth. The meats were so soft that they could easily be cut with a knife.
Kevin and Cat also shared the king-salmon that they loved. I was forced to put a stop to eating fish. I do not like it or eat it. If the salmon looked as delicious as it tasted, with its vibrant pink color, then I would guess it was excellent. The fact that it was gone so quickly confirmed my guess.
Desserts: Saving the best for last
Did I mention how much I appreciate Cat and Kevin helping me to save room for desert? I told myself I would do a good work out when I returned and started on deserts. The sampler of desserts sounded like a good way to try a bit of everything. I couldn’t resist the chou pastry. The sampler included maple pecan pie and meringue bits, as well as berry tarts. Smores, chocolate cake, and smores. But the chou pastries stole my heart. All of my hard work was worth it. The pastry was light and fluffy, and the custard chocolate and Bailey’s ice-cream rounded out the dessert. I love adult ice-cream. All of my friends are aware that this is true. We enjoyed every bite and were comforted by the fact that it was ending.
Auberge Saint-Antoine Tour in Quebec
Chez Muffy The city of is situated in the Auberge Saint-Antoine The hotel is ranked as one of the best in Quebec City. We were happy to have a few travel bloggers show us around the hotel. Auberge Saint-Antoine is a place used to hosting press tours. However, it seemed to me that they were willing to do their best to satisfy every guest.
The hotel had artifacts on display that depicted 400 years of Quebec’s history. Auberge Saint-Antoine is located on three historic sites of Quebec City’s old port, including a wharf and a port thriving with Brittish culture. The hotel features artifacts from an archeological dig that took place during construction. These are a tribute to the rich history of the site. Auberge Saint-Antoine’s ability to blend the history of Old Quebec and modern amenities with coziness makes me want to return. We saw heated floors, comfortable beds and a well-equipped gym. The views were also amazing. Auberge Saint-Antoine is a lovely place to base a romantic getaway in Quebec.
We would then head downstairs to experience Sunday brunch at Chez Muffy, which we have heard is really something special. Then we would head downstairs for Sunday brunch at Chez Muffy which, according to our friends, is a real treat. We enjoyed the view of the Chateau frontenac Castle shining against the night sky, on one side. On the other, the lights of Quebec glowed on the St. Lawrence River. This was a scene straight out of a fairytale.
Chez Muffy Restaurant Quebec: Parting thoughts
We had the opportunity to visit many restaurants during our culinary tour in Quebec. The trip wouldn’t have been complete if we hadn’t spent an evening at Chez Muffy. They were delicious in themselves, but also provided us with a real understanding of the Quebec region. Our appetite for knowledge and experience was more than satisfied.
